VR4ALL

Ludor Engineering implemented the project Immersive VR technologies as a means to empathizing disabled users in the design-for-all process (VR4ALL), funded by the European Union’s ERASMUS+ programme, KA220-HED – Cooperation partnerships in higher education.
The broader objective of VR4All was to investigate the use of immersive VR in the preliminary phases of the design thinking process, emphasising on inclusive design. The project delivered VR tools that enable design professionals or students (pursuing studies in design or design engineering or relevant fields of study) to acquire a first-person perspective of the needs and restrictions of people with visual and motor disabilities.
The target groups of the project are HEI teachers and students of product design.
Results
Technological toolset comprising:
- 3D models
- reusable VR application assets which will enable the simulation of various types of motor and visual disabilities;
- VR applications integrating the 3D models and the VR assets to provide immersed users the means to carry out specific tasks as if they were disabled (the assigned tasks will be formally documented as use case scenarios).
Training material for HE teachers who will introduce the use of the VR tools in design education.
Extensive pilot evaluation of the VR tools in the educational context to assess their impact in the achievement of learning objectives.
